Lengthening achieved!

Yesterday we finished lengthening!

I am glad that lengthening is over because it is hard to turn some of the struts, and sometimes it hurts.

The last week has been very very hard.  I have been tired and sore because my nerves and muscles and skin have stretched as far as they can.  I have been able to feel the stretch with each millimeter for the last few days.  We had to slow down and take some extra rest days, but we made it.

We lengthened for 41 days, so now I have to heal for 82 days.  During this time the bone will grow together and harden.  It has felt like a really long time.  82 days sounds like a long time too so I am hoping it is faster than it sounds.

Mr Walsh said he would like me to start walking with no crutches as soon as I can.  I am managing to walk around the house with only one crutch.  I will see him again in four weeks and Mum’s goal is to get me walking without any crutches into his office.

Everyone says it is going to get much easier from today as my leg is not stretching anymore.

  1. That’s a great achievement, Izzy. Well done. You’ve coped very well with such a big operation. 80 days should pass quite quickly

  2. Well done Izzy and Pip – a long hard road, but you’ve made it. I did remark to Iz that it’s a pity she can’t have champagne – she thought she might be allowed a fizzy lemonade! I think you’ve both earned it.

  3. Izzy – you are a legend, and your Mum and Dad are pretty awesome too. And if you want champagne to celebrate, that can be arranged (only a little sip, of course!) Well done all xxx HURRAY!

  4. Izzy you are remarkable. Pip, that page will need to be framed. As I read this post Izzy, it reminded me of how I felt when I had the kids growing inside me, counting down the days to meet them, feeling the skin stretching and the organs moving to accommodate their growing bodies. 82 days is a long time, but not in the grand scheme of things. You are good at working towards challenges, as are the rest of your family, especially Dad at the moment with his fund raising and training for the marathon. Dad has been training for 82 days I bet! The countdown to Christmas will help, as will all the end of year shows, services and parties. I think we all need to start planning a party for the end of your treatment – we need a BOOGIE goal! Thank you for sharing your journey. It is a privilege to read and I’m grateful for you sharing it with us.
